Laptops are often stolen. They are selling small, lightweight, and valuable. When a laptop is stolen it is a great inconvenience at best, and if confidential business data into the wrong hands, the results catastrophic.
Many professionals use a laptop, often transporting between home and office. Most travel at least occasionally using a laptop. Laptops are particularly vulnerable when you are traveling but also often stolenOffices and apartments as well.
These simple steps should be taken to help protect laptops from theft.
Use a security cable, and perhaps an alarm for your laptop, available at any computer store. I do not always lock my laptop, for example at home, but often lock in hotel rooms and even in my office when leaving for extended periods.
Carry your laptop in something other than a laptop bag, for example a briefcase orBackpack. Do not make it obvious your bag contains a laptop!
Do not try to laptops in a car. This is not always practical, but minimized to the extent practicable. Never leave a laptop, laptop bag or briefcase in plain sight in a car.
Watch your laptop carefully in airports and train stations! Of course you do not do it in checked luggage. Just ignore it or let alone even a few seconds. When going through the security checkpoint, place it on the x-ray machine modified through just before the walk.
Many laptops are stolen from the company. If you do not know whether it is safe, your laptop unattended then ask someone. A colleague once had his laptop out of a "stolen safe building" a police line during the lunch break!
Leave your laptop or notebook accessories visible in your hotel. Covered in a drawer of clothes is a good hiding place.
If you come by bus or shuttle, hold on to your> Laptop. Do not put it "behind" with the other luggage.
It only takes a few seconds for a thief, grab a laptop. These simple steps help you protect your laptop, your data and your company from potential disaster!
